Incoming Scholar Checklist

As an incoming exchange visitor and scholar planning to arrive in the United States, you may find it confusing to navigate the many steps necessary to acquire J-1 status, travel to the U.S., find a place to live, complete required university forms, get adjusted and so much more.

Because we know how challenging it can be, especially for new exchange visitors, International Services is here to help every step of the way. If you have any questions we are here to help every step of the way. Once you have received your immigration document from the University, please follow the steps below are a guide to help navigate you on your new journey to becoming a panther! 

Before you Arrive:

  • Secure your J-1 Visa 
  • Prepare for your Travel Arrangements
  • Set up your eCampus Portal
  • Course Registration
  • Pay Tuition and Fees
  • Determine where you will be living
  • Prepare necessary health insurance documentation 
  • Pack for an Amazing Experience

After you Arrive:

  • Schedule a meeting with International Services
  • Coordinate with your faculty supervisor to make necessary arrangements for your research or studies 
  • Complete Immigration Check-in Process
  • Obtain Campus Identification
  • Access your Adelphi email account
