Wendy Badala is currently the Director of International Services and the Interfaith Center at Adelphi University.  On behalf of the university, she serves as the Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) with the Student Exchange Visitor Program, and the Responsible Officer (RO) with the Department of State.  Wendy’s responsibilities in this role are: to oversee and maintain the regulatory program oversight for students and scholars, assist with campus internationalization, support students and faculty with relevant program support, structure, and cultural activities and to advocate for the needs of international students and scholars.  Wendy is also responsible for the religious and spiritual support services and needs to foster spiritual growth in leadership and development within the university.  

Wendy has served in the field of international education since 2001.  She began her career as the international admissions counselor at Mohawk Valley Community College, the State University of New York, in Utica, New York followed by the Assistant Director of International Advisement at the Julliard School in New York, New York.  Wendy has been at Adelphi University in her role since August 2007 and currently serves as the student organization advisor to the International Student Society, South Asian Student Association and the Korean Entertainment Club.  She is also a member of the following university committees: DACA, International and Immigration Task Force; Campus Activities and Programs; International Leadership Coordinating Committee; University Housing Committee; LGBTQ+ and Allie Committee; and the New Student Club Committee.

Wendy is expected to receive her Master of Art’s Degree in General Psychology and a Human Resources Management Certificate in August 2019 from Adelphi University.  She has previously received her Bachelor of Arts Degree studying Criminal Justice and Political Science in 2001 from Plattsburgh State University, State University of New York in Plattsburgh, New York.  Wendy understands what the international student experience is like as she enrolled and lived at the University of Chester in Chester, England during her studies.  Wendy also has served as an intern with the New York State Assembly. 

Wendy considers herself to an advocate and deeply committed to her role as a mentor, advisor, leader and supporter to the international student and scholar community.  Her passion and dedication to this role come from her personal and professional experiences with the global community.  As a mom of three, Wendy is focused on the importance of cultural competency in our global world.

Rachel Nelson

Rachel is the Assistant Director of International Services and is happy to serve as immigration adviser, Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for all of our international students and scholars at Adelphi University.

Rachel is able to assist you with understanding how to maintain valid status, current immigration regulations, and provides additional academic support. She assists in coordinating cultural activities on-campus, professional development opportunities, International Orientation, and oversees the International Mentor Program. Rachel serves on many committees on campus including International Leadership Coordinating Committee and Campus Activities and Programs. 

Born and raised on Long Island, New York, Rachel is familiar with the surrounding area and can provide many suggestions on the best hiking spots, running trails, and local restaurants. She previously attended Dowling College and earned her Bachelor’s in Psychology. Today, Rachel is attending Adelphi University and is working towards completing her Master’s Degree in Social Work. 

Fun Facts about Rachel:

  • Rachel has competed playing women’s soccer abroad in Israel, Argentina, and Brazil

  • Rachel is currently training for her first marathon, the TSC New York City Marathon

  • Rachel has two older brothers and one older sister
